We were genuinely thrilled when Jess and Andrew reached out about their intimate wedding at Mount Gulian Historic Site. As a Beacon-based photography team, this beloved historic venue holds a very special and dear place in our hearts. Mount Gulian sits on a beautiful 44-acre private estate with sweeping Hudson River views just outside Beacon, NY. Explore all of our wedding photography services to see how we approach days just like this.

This Mount Gulian wedding took place on a soft, rainy spring day in Beacon, NY. The weather brought a cozy and romantic atmosphere that honestly felt perfect for Jess and Andrew’s intimate vision. As Hudson Valley wedding photographers, we find that overcast and rainy light is incredibly flattering for portraits. It wraps everything in a gentle, diffused glow that even the best studio light simply cannot replicate.

Mount Gulian Historic Site is a truly remarkable setting for a small wedding or intimate celebration. The grounds feature an 18th-century Dutch barn, a garden with antique roses and peonies, and a sweeping riverside lawn. The estate blends stunning natural scenery with layers of deep American history in every corner. It is no wonder that couples continue to choose this venue season after season for their most important day.

We began Jess and Andrew’s Mount Gulian wedding day with a first look outside the historic Dutch Colonial home. The covered porch kept them perfectly dry as they saw each other for the very first time that day. Andrew’s face broke into the most genuine, tearful smile the moment Jess stepped into view. That single moment made the whole rainy morning absolutely and completely worth it.

After the first look, we headed out into the garden and rolling grounds with umbrellas in hand. The rolling hill behind the barn offered a gorgeous backdrop, with the Hudson River hazy through the misty air. We love how Mount Gulian’s grounds give us so many distinct portrait settings within a single location. Jess and Andrew were totally at ease, laughing and leaning into each other throughout every moment.

One of our very favorite things about this micro wedding was the couple’s creative approach to the timeline. Jess and Andrew chose to hold cocktail hour before the ceremony, giving everyone a relaxed and social start. Guests mingled, settled in, and the couple personally greeted each and every person they loved. That warmth filled the barn completely and carried beautifully straight through the ceremony itself.

The ceremony itself was deeply moving and emotional for everyone gathered in the room. As Hudson Valley wedding photographers, we have witnessed many beautiful moments, but this one genuinely stood out. Jess surprised Andrew with official adoption paperwork for her beloved dog from before they were together. The tears were absolutely real, and so was the pure, overwhelming joy on Andrew’s face.

After the ceremony, Jess and Andrew slipped away upstairs in the historic house for quiet and tender moments together. When they came back down, it was finally time to cut the tower of cheese wheels. Jess is a cheese monger, so this was truly the most personal and fitting touch of the entire day. We grabbed a few more portraits outside in the soft, beautiful rain before warmly saying our goodbyes.

The barn at Mount Gulian is beautifully maintained and incredibly versatile for a small wedding or micro wedding. Its warm wood walls and generous, airy space made it ideal for their reception dinner. As a Beacon-based photography team, we always appreciate venues that offer interesting architectural details to work with. The gorgeous bluestone patio just outside the barn doors added yet another beautiful layer to the entire setting.

Mount Gulian sits just 75 miles from New York City and under five minutes from the Beacon train station. That makes it incredibly convenient for guests traveling in from across the Northeast and beyond. As Hudson Valley wedding photographers, we love bringing couples to this venue for its historic charm and natural beauty. This non-profit site supports American history education, so your wedding day also gives back in a meaningful way.

We are so grateful to the talented vendors who brought this Mount Gulian wedding together so beautifully. The venue experience was provided by Mount Gulian, whose team warmly welcomes couples of all backgrounds. Their catering from Hickory BBQ Restaurant matched the relaxed and joyful tone of the whole day perfectly. Together, these wonderful partners made the entire celebration feel truly effortless and full of heart.

We approach every intimate wedding and micro wedding with exactly the same philosophy and care. We want to document real, genuine moments as they unfold naturally, never manufacture them for the camera. On moody rainy days like this one, we lean fully into the atmosphere and let it do the storytelling. We are truly honored to have been Jess and Andrew’s Hudson Valley wedding photographers on such a meaningful day.
