When thinking about eloping in New York City, there are tons of gorgeous places to get married. One of the most popular spots for micro-weddings and elopements in Dumbo, Brooklyn. We love shooting wedding photography in Brooklyn Bridge Park. That being said, there are some things you should know before eloping in Dumbo.
First, this park in Brooklyn gets very busy with tourists and locals alike. Like we said before, this is a trendy spot to get married. When we shoot weddings in Brooklyn Bridge Park, we often recommend the couples choose a very early time slot. This allows them to get the best possible wedding pictures without having to wait for a spot. In popular places like on the Brooklyn Bridge itself or Washington Street in Dumbo, it’s very common that tourists will be lined up and taking photos.
If you plan to elope on the Brooklyn Bridge, consider choosing a spot in the park instead of on the bridge itself. The bridge has a lot of foot traffic and bike traffic. It’s best to leave the elopement on the ground not to risk hurting anybody with bike traffic. The waterfront itself has spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge, so you can have the iconic monument in your wedding photos without risking anyone’s safety.
Jane’s Carousel is a super popular spot for wedding photography in Dumbo, Brooklyn. However, this carousel is an actual event venue as well. If you go to elope in front of Jane’s Carousel, do so after hours. That way, you’re not going to be driven away by anyone who works for the carousel. There will be glass walls up, but these make for lovely wedding pictures in Dumbo.
Do not elope on Washington Street with the Manhattan Bridge view. This street is a super popular spot for iconic NYC photos. That being said, it is a street with actual car traffic. Cars are driving through that spot throughout the day. If you want to have the Manhattan Bridge as your backdrop, you can do it at the park’s waterfront. You can also take photos for your timeless New York elopement on Washington Street, just not the actual ceremony itself.
One of the more popular spots to get married in Brooklyn Bridge Park is Pier A by the ferry dock. It has a gorgeous view of the New York City skyline, and it’s beautiful. However, you must keep in mind that it is a ferry dock. There will be loud boats chugging by throughout your ceremony unless you time it correctly. If you plan to elope in that spot, make sure that you wait until the ferry has just left. Then, keep your short ceremony short, and you should be fine.
Pebble Beach is another great choice of location for getting married in Brooklyn Bridge Park. This beach is gorgeous, and it’s perfect for wedding ceremonies in summer months. That’s why, if you plan to marry and Dumbo, Brooklyn, you should get there super early, so you can claim the spot. Throughout the day, you’re likely to see several couples celebrating their big day at this gorgeous spot in Brooklyn. It gives an unobstructed view of the New York City skyline end of the Brooklyn Bridge. Pebble Beach is an excellent option for planning your Dumbo elopement.
Be careful if you plan to get married in the Max Family Garden. The garden is a gorgeous spot in the spring and summer months but is also quite busy. Be sure to look into any permits needed to get married in this lush, maintained garden. It’s a very romantic spot to tie the knot but is also quite popular for Brooklyn Bridge Park elopements and engagement shoots.
The River Café garden is gorgeous. However, they do not allow professional photography unless you were having a wedding at the river café. Don’t try and sneak on the property to take photos. They will certainly kick you out. However, it is a gorgeous spot to get married, so if you’re thinking of a bit of a larger occasion with more friends and family members, consider the River Café as a wedding venue.
There are other gorgeous wedding venues in the area. Look at Smack Mellon, Dumbo Loft, 26Bridge, and others; you have lots of options when it comes to getting married in Dumbo Brooklyn. When you choose a venue in this location, you can have a stress-free photo session without commuting to a different area. Take a look at some wedding venues in this neighborhood if you’re looking for iconic Brooklyn wedding photos.
Some couples also choose to do their first look in Brooklyn Bridge Park before heading to their venue elsewhere. This will allow you to get the wedding photos of your dreams and still have your wedding venue wherever else it is. It’s an excellent option for couples who wouldn’t be able to accomplish this without a first look. As Brooklyn wedding photographers, we love when couples choose to do photos here to kick off their big day.
If you hope to get married in the afternoon or at sunset in Brooklyn Bridge Park, make sure that you look into permit options. That way, if someone is just starting to set up a wedding themselves, you have that site already booked. It saves a lot of hassle when it comes to planning your New York City elopement. That being said, the permits have specific days and times only, so make sure you read through these well ahead of time.
If you are eloping in New York, make sure to check on any restrictions before you head out. That applies to anywhere you are getting married in New York City. It’s essential to double-check so that your Dumbo elopement goes seamlessly.
When planning your Dumbo wedding, make sure to get a marriage license as well. After obtaining your license to wed, you must wait 24 hours before tying the knot. Since City Hall weddings in New York were closed down in 2020, Project Cupid became a popular way to get a license before the big day.
When you plan an intimate wedding in Dumbo, you have to need a small handful of vendors on the day itself. Elopement photography is undoubtedly one of the most important. Let us know if you plan to elope in Brooklyn Bridge Park. We would love to capture it for you! It’s one of our favorite spots because there are so many great locations packed into one area.
