Alisa and John got married at a beautiful wedding in the heart of Gowanus. This super personal day was a ton of fun to capture as Beacon-based wedding photographers. Their 501 Union wedding photos are seriously the stuff dreams are made of, from the first look in DUMBO to the reception at this gorgeous NYC wedding venue.
These two started their day off at a hotel in Downtown Brooklyn. Getting a hotel here makes it easy to access versatile wedding photo locations and also be close to your wedding venue in Gowanus. These two decided they’d like to do a first look at Brooklyn Bridge Park, which as Hudson Valley wedding photographers, we were totally excited about. DUMBO is one of the prettiest neighborhoods to photograph for engagement sessions and wedding photos with a New York skyline view.
We typically show up for the last part of getting ready. At this point, the bride should be pretty much ready to get dressed with hair and makeup done. This way, we’re not taking a bunch of photos without hair and makeup done. We can get final touchups, robe shots, and photos while getting dressed. Plus, it’s a great time to get details like shoes, invites, accessories, and other special items. If you’re getting makeup done on your big day, you should always be the first or second person to go instead of the last. We can start a day without a bridesmaid, but can’t start it without you!
Alisa and John were just so incredibly sweet to each other and that made it easy as wedding photographers for us to capture them in their element. Going back to the spot where they had their epic engagement session was perfect. They felt at ease having worked with us prior to their 501 Union wedding photos. After we took some portraits with the Brooklyn Bridge wedding photos, it was time for the wedding party photos. They brought out their bridesmaids and groomsmen for some super fun photos. The 501 Union wedding photos were really on point!
After the wedding party photos, it was time to head back over to their wedding at 501 Union for some family photos. The weather was perfect with a slight breeze that helped keep them feeling cool under the hot sun. This couple stood in the reception room of this Brooklyn wedding venue with their loved ones for some super sweet family shots. They had their family arrive early to the venue so they could get the formal photos over with prior to the ceremony.
When telling your family to arrive for photos, give them a time that is 15 or 30 minutes before their expected session. This is important because family can have a tendency to run late on wedding days. When it comes to having a wedding at 501 Union, many couples need to take parking and traffic into account as well. Give your loved ones ample time to arrive so we’re not in a rush to get your combinations done.
It’s important to us to let our couples enjoy cocktail hour if that’s important to them. Many couples miss this part of their big day because they need to take their formal 501 Union wedding photos. For couples who skip their first look, that’s totally fine, but it means less time spent with your friends on the actual celebration day.
Alisa and John said their 501 Union wedding vows to each other in this beautiful setting. They were surrounded by all of their friends and family for this Brooklyn wedding ceremony. Gowanus was the perfect backdrop for their 501 Union wedding photos since it’s one of our favorite neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
The greenhouse at this venue is a beautiful spot to tie the knot. Being the most popular place within the venue for a ceremony, just be aware that it can run a little warm in the summertime. These two had a cloth to dab sweat – and tears – during their emotional ceremony. Being prepared like this is perfect, especially when there’s room in a suit wearing partner’s outfit for you to keep a cloth. This could be a pocket square or a tissue tucked away.
After the 501 Union wedding ceremony, it was cocktail hour. This gave everyone a chance to take a breather, relax, and get ready for the party! Owned by Gowanus Hospitality, this event space is truly an amazing wedding venue. This hall has so much character that you can’t help but have fantastic 501 Union wedding photos. From the bar and cocktail lounge to the converted greenhouse ceremony space, each room brings so much character.
Small appetizers floated around as the couple made their rounds. Having this extra time to spend with family and friends is great. If you’ve brought everyone you love out to your party, you’ll definitely want to spend a little time. Plus, these two got to snack on some appetizers and enjoy their drinks with lots of laughter.
Guests floated between the cocktail lounge and the ceremony space. At a certain point, they had to clear from the ceremony space to make way for the couple’s 360º photo booth. This was a super cool addition to the day that entertained the guests. As Beacon-based wedding photographers, we love unique ideas like this.
After cocktail hour was over, it was time to boogie! Their dance floor photos at this unique NYC event space were full of life every moment of the reception. We loved seeing this crew dancing and having a great time. 501 Union wedding photos are so fun to take when the couple is ready to party. We love seeing this Brooklyn wedding venue transform into an amazing dance floor!
It was such a privilege to capture these 501 Union wedding photos and share this day with John & Alisa. We loved watching them take it down with their friends and family! As we started to pack up for the night, the Cupid Shuffle came on and we had to snap just a few more moments. It’s always so fun to watch dance floors light up with guided dances like this. The couple was immersed in their family and friends as they danced the night away.
