We were so honored when Helena and Daniel asked us to capture their Old Westbury Gardens wedding photos. Helena and Daniel already tied the knot, but that didn’t stop them from wanting to have a special celebration. That made this wonderful wedding celebration at Old Westbury Gardens wedding extra fun – zero pressure for the couple, just good times!
As Brooklyn wedding photographers, we love going out to Long Island for wedding photos. There are so many gorgeous locations, with Old Westbury Gardens being one of the most gorgeous. This stunning property lies on 200 acres of beauty in Old Westbury, NY. With the original home having been completed in 1906, this historical property makes the perfect backdrop for Long Island wedding photography.
To be able to do Long Island wedding photography at this gorgeous location, you’ll require a permit. If you’re hosting a ceremony on the property, the venue fee includes your permit. However, if you’re just looking to take wedding photos in Old Westbury, they have permits that need to be secured at least 4 weeks in advance.
As of 2021, the base fee for a 90-minute wedding photography permit between 10AM-3PM is $325. After 3:30PM, the base permit fee rises to $450 for beautiful golden hour lighting. The max number of guests for a wedding photo permit at Old Westbury Gardens is 20, or an additional $75 fee for 21-26 guests.
They decided to gather their close family for a beautiful day of wedding photos together. Without a formal celebration on their original wedding day, this plan allows Helena and Daniel to have special photos with loved ones. In addition to that, they kept some traditions of a classic wedding day. There was getting ready time, a first look, portraits, and family photos.
If you’re looking to have a wedding ceremony at Old Westbury Gardens, you’re able to host your wedding with up to 100 guests. It’s the perfect venue for a lush, gorgeous intimate or micro-wedding on Long Island. Ceremonies at this historical New York wedding venue are hosted in the Garden of Appreciation on the property. If you hope to host a reception at the gardens as well, you may also hold your wedding ceremony and reception at Orchard Hill in Old Westbury Gardens.
Helena and Daniel got ready for their special day at the Hilton Garden Inn Westbury. This was a great, nearby location to start their day. Each half of the couple got ready in their respective rooms, with loved ones helping them with their finishing touches. Helena shared a touching moment with her mother before they were ready to go.
On their way over to the venue, Helena made some time for a first look with her father. This was a super sweet moment to add to their Long Island wedding photography. Without a wedding ceremony on this day, having these little moments makes for an extra special occasion.
Coming out to Long Island as New York wedding photographers is always a delight. This spacious property gave us so many options for beautiful locations for wedding pictures. Helena and Daniel did their first look under a tree on this sunny day before heading out to the many beautiful spots at this venue to take wedding photos.
Taking wedding photos with Westbury House in the background creates a super classic and romantic backdrop. This estate adds a sense of grandiose to images. Helena and Daniel also posed by Linden Alée, the Walled Garden, the Terraces of Westbury House, and the South Alée. It’s overwhelming how many perfect locations there are at Old Westbury Gardens.
Helena and Daniel didn’t have an engagement session with us to get used to having us behind the camera. These two became comfortable with the camera. They trusted the process the whole way through. As NYC wedding photography professionals, it’s important to us to prompt our couples instead of over posing them. That way, it helps couples to forget about having a camera on them and focus on each other instead.
Because of this, this post-wedding session at Old Westbury Gardens was a ton of fun. Helena and Daniel leaned and had fun with it. Nothing was taken too seriously, resulting in candid, romantic wedding photos. To achieve beautiful, candid wedding photos, you have to have faith in your photographers to direct you in a subtle yet effective manner.
