Fall LGBTQ Micro Wedding at The Foundry in LIC

When Alec and Kyle planned their micro wedding at The Foundry, they chose a venue that perfectly matched their vision. This historic Long Island City space provided the ideal backdrop for their intimate celebration. Furthermore, the couple’s unique approach to their wedding day created unforgettable moments. As Hudson Valley wedding photographers, we couldn’t wait to document their story.Guestbook table with instant film cameras, boxes of film, pens in a copper cup, and a framed sign Five images of greenery, candles, floral arrangements, paper cranes, and a fireplace in evening light Loft with exposed brick, large windows, industrial beams, low tables, and floor cushions

Hudson Valley Wedding Photographers Capture Courtyard Portraits

The day began with portraits in The Foundry’s iconic courtyard. Early November blessed us with stunning red ivy covering the weathered brick walls. Moreover, the couple included their beloved dog Momo, an Australian Shepherd and Corgi mix. The cobblestones and ivy created a naturally romantic setting that required minimal additional decor.White flowers, blue thistles, and greenery in a copper vase, and a hanging jar of fairy lights and dried flowers Bronze cow figurine with a candle and book, and a plush Highland cow toy beside chocolate Loft space with low tables, white floor cushions, plants, candles, and string lights against brick walls

Why This LIC Venue Works for Intimate Weddings

As elopement photographers, we’ve worked in many venues throughout the region. The Foundry stands out for its ability to feel cozy regardless of guest count. Additionally, the segmented layout creates distinct spaces for different parts of the celebration. The venue’s industrial bones and lush greenery provide built-in visual interest for photography.Portraits of each groom in a gray suit with red tartan accents, one before red leaves and one before green foliage Two views of a groom's red tartan kilt with sporran, cream knee socks, and brown brogues on cobblestones Grooms embracing outside The Foundry with its brick walls draped in red ivy

After couples portraits, we moved into the main event space. Family and close friends gathered for formal photos in this soaring, light-filled room. Subsequently, guests began arriving to the sound of a traditional bagpiper. This Scottish touch perfectly complemented the venue’s historic character and set the tone for the celebration.Grooms smiling at each other beneath twinkling lights, one in a red plaid kilt and bow tie Couple in matching gray suits, one with a tartan sash, embracing and kissing among greenery Grooms in gray suits and red bow ties embracing, framed by autumn leaves and string lights

Intimate Weddings Allow Personal Guest Connections

The cocktail hour allowed Alec and Kyle to greet each arriving guest personally. This micro wedding at The Foundry exemplified the beauty of intimate celebrations. Because the guest list was small, the couple connected deeply with everyone present. As a Beacon-based photography team, we document these genuine interactions as they unfold naturally. Two photos of the grooms smiling and hugging beside a wall of red and orange ivyThree photos of the couple sitting together in front of a wall of colorful autumn leaves Three photos of the grooms in the garden with trees, a large bridge, and city buildings in the backgroundClose-up of two hands with wedding rings resting on a red tartan kilt, and a sword-shaped kilt pin

LGBTQ Wedding Speeches and Emotional Moments

Kyle delivered a touching speech that moved many guests to tears. Close loved ones also shared memories and well wishes for the couple. Consequently, the emotional resonance of the day continued to build throughout the evening. These unscripted moments form the heart of our documentary-style approach to queer wedding photography. One groom in a light gray suit and red plaid tie, the other in a gray jacket, red tartan kilt, and sash Grooms sharing a quiet moment near tall grass with a city bridge and industrial buildings behind them Grooms holding hands and smiling at the camera surrounded by red and yellow leaves

Micro Wedding at The Foundry with Cozy Dinner

The Foundry offers multiple dining areas that work beautifully for intimate weddings. Dinner took place in both the Greenhouse and the main space’s cozy nooks. The lower level featured Scottish-inspired decor that honored Kyle’s heritage. Meanwhile, the upper mezzanine showcased Japanese design elements reflecting Alec’s background.Grooms standing together on outdoor steps in front of a building covered in autumn ivy Grooms embracing amid tall grasses on a rooftop with a large bridge and autumn foliage behind themGrooms standing arm in arm on the rooftop at The Foundry overlooking the skyline and bridge Couple in matching gray suits sharing a kiss beside a brick wall covered in red and orange vines Grooms kissing and posing together in front of a wall of autumn leaves

Elopement Photographers Love The Greenhouse Space

The Greenhouse remains one of our favorite spaces for LGBTQ wedding celebrations. Its weathered brick walls and skylight ceiling create incredible natural light throughout the day. Furthermore, the year-round ivy provides organic texture and color. For this micro wedding at The Foundry, the space felt perfectly scaled to the guest count.Grooms holding hands, then kissing, in front of a wall of red and green ivy Grooms walking arm in arm on a cobblestone path, smiling at each otherDog in a red plaid bandana, and the grooms sitting on steps and holding their dog Grooms sharing a kiss, then smiling with their fluffy dog among colorful autumn leaves

Cultural Fusion in Intimate Wedding Design

The couple’s thoughtful approach to decor told their story visually. Scottish tartans and Japanese calligraphy coexisted harmoniously throughout The Foundry. This cultural blending demonstrated how intimate weddings allow for deeply personal touches. As a result, every detail reflected Alec and Kyle’s unique love story.Round table set for six with green napkins, gold cutlery, and a floral centerpiece in front of ivy-covered brick Collage of the reception room with greenery-covered walls, candlelit tables, and string lights Bite-sized snacks on a black tray, layered pastries with cream, and bites served in white spoons

Hudson Valley Wedding Photographers Capture Dance Floor Energy

After dinner, the party moved to the main floor for dancing. Non-Traditional Wedding DJs kept the energy high throughout the evening. Moreover, the combination of ULS NYC’s professional lighting and The Foundry’s industrial architecture created dramatic visuals. We captured the couple and their guests celebrating together under the soaring ceilings. Two grooms, one in a kilt and one in a suit, smiling and embracing under warm string lights

Queer Wedding Photography Vendor Team Collaboration

This seamless celebration wouldn’t have happened without an exceptional vendor team. The Foundry provided the stunning backdrop for the day. DISH Food NYC created a memorable culinary experience that honored both cultural traditions. Additionally, Non-Traditional Wedding DJs curated the perfect soundtrack for this unique celebration. Raw Space Venues in New York State for Intimate Weddings

The Foundry operates as a raw space that requires complete customization. This means couples bring in all catering, furniture, and decor elements. While this demands more planning, it allows for complete creative freedom. Consequently, no two weddings at this venue ever look the same.Three photos of the grooms among their guests and a woman in green and a man speaking to the room Man in a burgundy velvet blazer giving a speech, then hugging a man in a tan suit as guests applaud

Beacon-Based Photography & Videography Team’s Venue Perspective

Working at The Foundry always excites us as photographers. The mix of natural light from skylights and dramatic architectural elements creates endless possibilities. Golden hour light hitting the Queensboro Bridge produces an amber glow perfect for romantic portraits. Meanwhile, the industrial textures provide striking backdrops for candid documentary moments.Buffet dishes including sauteed greens with sesame, roasted vegetables, chicken wings, and a salad with avocado and pomegranate Buffet table with a salad bowl, chafing dish, and bread board beneath hanging greenery Trays of appetizers including pastries, sausages, and crostini set out buffet style Reception space with round and square tables, wooden chairs, floral centerpieces, candles, and greenery-covered walls

Documentary-Style LGBTQ Wedding Photography Approach

Our approach to queer wedding photography prioritizes authentic moments over staged poses. Throughout Alec and Kyle’s micro wedding at The Foundry, we followed the natural flow of events. This allowed us to capture genuine laughter, tears, and joy as they happened. The intimate guest count made it easier to document meaningful interactions throughout the day.Collage of guests mingling with drinks beneath brick arches and twinkle lights during cocktail hour Place setting with gold utensils, and five guests seated on mats around a low table beneath string lights Two-tiered purple and white wedding cake with figurines and a dog topper, surrounded by cupcakes on a barrel

Why Elopement Photographers Recommend Smaller Celebrations

This celebration perfectly demonstrated the power of keeping your guest list small. Alec and Kyle spent quality time with each person who attended their wedding. Moreover, the reduced guest count allowed for unique touches like personalized place settings and custom favors. As elopement photographers, we consistently see how smaller celebrations create deeper connections.Groom in a gray jacket and red tartan sash laughing with a bearded guest in a vest and tie Two men and a woman in conversation at a candlelit table with a floral centerpiece White candles of various sizes burning in clear glass holders

November Micro Wedding at The Foundry Timing

Early November provided ideal conditions for this outdoor-indoor celebration. The courtyard’s ivy displayed its full autumn color transformation. Additionally, comfortable temperatures allowed guests to move freely between indoor and outdoor spaces. The changing seasons added natural beauty that complemented The Foundry’s aesthetic perfectly.Candles circling a branch centerpiece, a DJ near string lights, and a tray with a candle and sheep figurine on plaid fabric Two dessert trays, glossy dark chocolate treats and light cookies with colorful sprinkles

Long Island City Venue Accessibility

While The Foundry sits in Long Island City, it feels worlds away from the city’s hustle. The venue’s industrial neighborhood provides ample parking and easy access. Furthermore, its proximity to Manhattan makes it convenient for guests traveling from various locations. This accessibility makes it popular for couples planning intimate weddings from throughout the region.Guests dancing under string lights, a man in a gray suit singing into a microphone, and another sipping a drink

Hudson Valley Wedding Photographers on Natural Light

The venue’s multiple levels and varied spaces offer different lighting conditions throughout the day. Natural light floods in through industrial windows and the Greenhouse’s skylight ceiling. As the sun sets, architectural lighting and candlelight create romantic ambiance. This variety allows us as Hudson Valley wedding photographers to create diverse imagery throughout the celebration.Guests in formal attire and tartan kilts chatting with drinks beneath brick arches

Planning Your Own Intimate Wedding Experience

Couples considering this venue should embrace its blank canvas nature. Because you control every design element, you can truly personalize your celebration. Work with vendors who understand the space’s quirks and requirements. Additionally, consider how you’ll use the distinct areas to create flow throughout your event.Green fabric favor bundles with name tags, a bar setup, and trays of bite-sized desserts Open guestbook with handwritten notes, a photo, and white flowers beside a copper cup of pens

Vendor Experience at Micro Wedding Venues

All vendors at this micro wedding at The Foundry brought venue-specific expertise. DISH Food NYC navigated the kitchen requirements seamlessly. Non-Traditional Wedding DJs understood the space’s acoustics perfectly. Similarly, ULS NYC knew exactly how to highlight the architecture through lighting. Queer Wedding Photography at Industrial Venues

From a photography perspective, The Foundry offers incredible variety within one location. The courtyard provides outdoor portrait opportunities with the iconic ivy walls. Inside, the industrial architecture creates dramatic backdrops for both candid and posed images. The mezzanine level adds vertical interest and unique vantage points for capturing the celebration.
