Leslie and John got married in the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge Park on the waterfront. Standing in front of Jane’s Carousel, these two tied the knot before their intimate Smack Mellon wedding in DUMBO, Brooklyn. A 6,000 square foot gallery boasts a ceiling with great heights and raw beams. Located on Plymouth Street, this venue for private parties was perfect for an architect like Leslie who loved the especially exciting space with tremendous unique qualities.
Of all the event spaces in Brooklyn, this spot is found between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. In the heart of the vibrant neighborhood of DUMBO, Smack Mellon offers tremendous architectural elements and a city skyline view. This truly unique venue is located within the picturesque Brooklyn Bridge Park. We love that Leslie and John wanted to get married outside on the pier for the spectacular view.
We started with a first look on the Time Out Market rooftop. Leslie and John wanted this space because of the lovely architectural views. You can see the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges with breathtaking views from this high-up place. The next stop was Brooklyn Bridge Park for an intimate wedding. The ceremony commenced at Jane’s Carousel, where family and friends all gathered together to witness this special moment.
Leslie and John then walked around taking photos for their wedding in DUMBO, Brooklyn. As New York wedding photographers this is one of the most photographic places in the city. We went to Washington Street situated beside the venue for the classic Manhattan Bridge Instagram shot. We also took the obligatory Brooklyn Bridge wedding photo in front of this famous landmark. Leslie and John’s wedding venue is one of our favorite spots to shoot a NYC wedding in Brooklyn because of all the beautiful views you get to take in.
The wedding party walked down the pier and we snapped some beautiful photos in front of the New York scene. Our couple got married in front of hundreds of onlookers that joined to see them exchange their vows and celebrate with a kiss. They also had their lovely dog join in for the ceremony, which was a great personal touch for these two on their Brooklyn wedding day.
If you’re having a Smack Mellon wedding, you can always consider having an outdoor ceremony in DUMBO. That being said, you are required to obtain a permit for such. These two made sure to get the proper paperwork and additionally check in with Jane’s Carousel to be sure there were no other weddings going on at that time.
Of course, being that this was an intimate Smack Mellon wedding in New York, the inside of Smack Mellon also serves as a fabulous reception space. You can always add your personal touches and add some DIY details to elevate the venue. Whether you tie the knot at the venue or the picturesque Brooklyn Bridge Park, there are no wrong answers for a celebration so personal.
Be warned, however, that in warmer seasons the park is in the vibrant neighborhood of DUMBO. This is a very popular tourist destination for photography. If you have a truly unique venue like they had for this Smack Mellon wedding, it’s worth considering having your ceremony in this private and especially exciting space.
They gathered family and friends onto the amphitheater seats to watch the ceremony take place. We were lucky that this overcast day provided beautiful light for their wedding photography in Brooklyn. As NYC wedding photographers, we love rainy weddings during off peak season. It can be risky to hold an outdoor ceremony on a grey day, but it was well worth it. Plus, it didn’t start raining until the couple said ‘I Do’ on the Manhattan skyline.
After the ceremony situated on the waterfront in the vibrant Brooklyn Bridge Park, we headed back to the Smack Mellon wedding venue for a beautiful and intimate reception. As our bride and groom were planning a true New York City wedding with perspective views, we felt it was important to take advantage of all that smack Mellon has to offer. We took photos of the couple in front of this DUMBO wedding venue’s unique brick walls and architecture. They are no ordinary event space in Brooklyn.
After the ceremony, we took some photos of the wedding party and families. Everyone walked back down to the Smack Mellon wedding for cocktail hour under the Manhattan Bridge archway. After a toast with wine, their friends partied on with music from a live jazz band. It fit the classic theme at this unique venue for private events. Once the band was done, Smack Mellon transformed into a dance floor right on the Manhattan skyline.
Check in with the venue to see the latest information on rental fees at this East River facing event space. The blank canvas at Smack Mellon offers tremendous architectural elements with lots of space to work with. Plus, there are tons of nearby garages with ample parking for friends and family. The dramatic architecture makes for a great backdrop to your ceremony or reception.
This venue is located on Plymouth Street down near the West Elm. There is a handicap-accessible option for guests to have easy access to the space. You can also arrive by subway stop F at York Street, A/C at High Street, or the 2/3 at Clark St. Perfect for parties and corporate events. With a large prep area in the back, you can also have other vendors come in to make your day truly special.
These two had a beautiful Smack Mellon wedding under the Brooklyn Bridge. We can’t wait to come back to this DUMBO wedding venue to capture more fun photos.
