Maybe we’re biased, but Brooklyn is a major gem for NYC wedding photo locations. One reason: there are so many versatile locations for photos! As Brooklyn wedding photographers, we’ve been there, shot that, and now we’ve put together a list of our favorite spots for wedding photos in Brooklyn.
It’s outdoors. It’s huge (52 acres!). It does cost money ($18 per adult) but if you want a one-stop-shop for your Brooklyn wedding photos, this is it. This spot is particularly good in the spring. Two words: cherry blossoms. Please note that during the COVID pandemic, there are specific rules for entry. Find the latest here.
Make sure to obtain a special occasions photography permit for the BBG – you’ll want to make sure everything goes smoothly for your wedding! Each photo session here has a maximum of forty-five minutes and has a $350 permit fee.
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden also operates as an incredible wedding venue. Consider the Palm House, the Atrium, or one of their beautiful outdoor locations to host your New York wedding. We’re so impressed by this event space, and love that it serves as a two-in-one venue and photo location.
We had to mention it, right? Our only word of warning: Only attempt the Brooklyn Bridge for your wedding photos if you’re willing to wake up early. It’s the best way we’ve found to avoid a ton of foot and bike traffic since, well, it is a bridge.
Typically, we recommend using the Brooklyn Bridge as a location for your engagement photos as opposed to the big day. That way you don’t have to worry about dealing with the crowds of the bridge on the actual day of your wedding.
Call us rebels but we’re actually much bigger fans of Brooklyn Bridge Park. This is the waterfront park along the banks of the East River in a New York neighborhood known as Dumbo. Parts of the park don’t open until 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m., but other parts are open all day. It’s all free and there are some great art installations that make for interesting backdrops for your wedding photos.
One of the top Brooklyn wedding photo locations, Brooklyn Bridge Park has some major versatility going on. Using Jane’s Carousel as a backdrop, take dreamy, romantic photos at one of the most timeless places in Brooklyn. The views of the Manhattan skyline can’t be beat here.
A few personal favorites: Pebble Beach (see the whole city skyline), Max Family Garden (triangular!), and Pier A/Ferry Dock (stellar view of The Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan). Please note that during COVID many well-known locations in the park including Jane’s Carousel and St. Ann’s Warehouse are closed. Find the latest here.
Either combine a tour around Dumbo with a stop by Brooklyn Bridge Park or just hit up the neighborhood itself. There’s plenty to see! We’re fans of The Rooftop at Time Out Market and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge.
Unfortunately, both spots are closed or have limited access due to COVID restrictions but don’t despair if you’re reading this during the pandemic. Dumbo still has a lot to offer; the neighborhood’s Greek Revival and Italianate architecture is world-famous and easily available. Be sure to stop by Washington Street (you know the one) and also the “Yes!” wall; this is, as the name implies, a giant wall that says “Yes!” — a pretty good message on your wedding day.
With cobblestone streets and the most flawless view of the Manhattan Bridge, this iconic NYC wedding photo location is perfect for both engagement sessions and the big day. We love spending time in this cinematic neighborhood with couples, their families, and wedding parties.
This Brooklyn neighborhood is a good destination if you’re looking for wedding photos that feel a little less country, a little more city. Think brick walls and bright graffiti. There are also plenty of picturesque nature spots if you want a little of both. We recommend Marsha P. Johnson State Park for the view of the New York City skyline.
If you’re not familiar with this spot, it’s like an art gallery outdoors. The walls are a dazzling rainbow of street art and graffiti. Now imagine that blazing creativity as the background for your fabulous wedding clothes? Yeah, you get the idea.
Another gimme, we know, but how could we not mention Prospect Park? If you’re going during the pandemic, please be sure to read up on the latest health and safety guidance for visiting the park. Once you’re there, check out The Boathouse, Grand Army Plaza, and Binnen Bridge. You’ll know those first two from, oh, we don’t know, a million movies shot in New York but that last one is a little more secret. There’s even a waterfall. And in the spring? Don’t miss the cherry blossoms.
I love to take couples to Brooklyn Heights Promenade because there are just so many options for quality photos. You’ve got the natural beauty of the park. There are jaw-dropping views of the city. And yes, even amazing access to iconic brownstones. What’s not to love?
This spot, which you might also hear refer to as the Esplanade, is a particularly good pick if you want something a little quieter. There’s less hustle-and-bustle here and the tree-lined streets give the whole place a wooded, secluded feeling. That, among the other reasons above, is why we consider Brooklyn Heights Promenade one of the most underrated spots in NYC for wedding photos.
I saved the best for last! Or, at least, the most out-of-the-box. Say what you will about Coney Island but this place has color! And excitement! And life! There’s Luna Park to explore for more adventurous or roller-coaster-loving couples, the beach for more intimate sunset shots, and, of course, the famous boardwalk for a mix of both. Please note that access to certain parts of Coney Island is limited or not available during COVID. Find the latest here.
