We're Beacon-based Hudson Valley & Catskills wedding + elopement photographers who love to capture natural, authentic moments for all couples in love.
When we look at these photos, we see an incredibly brave couple whose dedication to getting the shot was top-tier. As Hudson Valley wedding photographers, we capture couples in cold weather a lot. But these two came out on a windy afternoon and rolled with the chilly weather. The resulting photos are a stunning testament to how gorgeous a Long Island City engagement photo shoot can be. Despite the rough conditions, these two were nothing but grins and laughter.

The shoot begins in the park with the famous Manhattan skyline view. This neighborhood has incredible vantage points that allow for the Empire State Building and other major landmarks as backdrops. Prior to their wedding day, Julie and Kevin took their engagement photos. This allows couples to get comfortable with the camera, and get great shots for their save-the-dates. This overcast day was perfect for soft lighting and some very dramatic winds.

One of the most iconic spots in Gantry Plaza Park is the Pepsi Cola sign. There was construction fencing up around the perimeter, so we made the most of it with some lower angles. After all, you have to include it if you’re shooting a Long Island City engagement session! The couple then warmed up in a second outfit, which made it easier to move around. We love the candid, authentic images that come from these moments where Kevin and Julie loosened up.

After the park, we headed into Skinny’s Cantina. The couple reached out ahead of time to ensure they would be able to take photos here. For anyone looking to take engagement pictures in a bar, you’ll want to get permission first. We also recommend going during the daytime, so you have a less crowded room. This Long Island City engagement shoot was perfectly rounded out by these margaritas and guacamole.

For winter engagement pictures, we also recommend a secondary indoor location. Some great spots in New York City include Grand Central, the MET Museum, or your favorite bar. For those who want to add a meaningful spot like this, just be sure to reach out to them. Some places will even open early for you to use, so long as you get clearance from them.

Prior to your wedding photography, always do an engagement photoshoot. This will allow you to become comfortable with your photographers ahead of time. You’ll also have some great content for your wedding website. Our guided candid style allows you to focus completely on each other. For camera-shy couples, this is the perfect way to get natural, comfortable photos. If you plan to take Gantry Plaza engagement photos, reach out and let us know – we’d love to make this happen for you.
Either way works for us! We’ll be in touch in no time at all to book in a chat with you and, yes, we’re sure Cordy and Phoebe will pop up and say hi.
