What No One Tells You About Hudson Valley Wedding Planning

Getting married in the Hudson Valley is one of the most beautiful choices you can make for your wedding day. From rolling hills to riverfront views, this region is filled with historic charm, modern venues, and endless opportunities for stunning photography. The natural beauty of the area makes it the perfect setting for couples who love timeless, romantic celebrations surrounded by nature.

Finding the Right Hudson Valley Wedding Vendors

The first step in planning your Hudson Valley wedding is finding a team of vendors who truly understand the area. As Hudson Valley wedding photographers, we’ve worked with incredible planners, florists, and venues throughout Beacon, Cold Spring, and Newburgh. Choosing local vendors ensures they know how to navigate the region’s seasons, scenery, and unique wedding venues with ease.

Some Couples Choose to Have a Courthouse Ceremony First

Some couples choose to get legally married at a Dutchess County Clerk’s Office or Westchester County Clerk before their big celebration. Having a small courthouse ceremony can simplify the process while saving the personal moments for your full wedding day. It’s a lovely way to officially start your marriage before hosting your Hudson Valley celebration.

You’ll Need a Marriage License Before the Big Day

In New York State, you’ll need to get your marriage license at least 24 hours before your wedding. This applies no matter where you tie the knot, whether it’s in Beacon, Newburgh, or Kingston. You’ll need valid identification, and the license will be good for 60 days. It’s a simple process, but make sure you plan ahead.

When to Get Married in the Hudson Valley

Every season in the Hudson Valley offers something special for weddings. Spring brings blooming gardens at Boscobel House & Gardens, while summer is ideal for celebrations at The Hill at Hudson with long, golden sunsets. Fall weddings shine at The Garrison with breathtaking foliage, and winter brings cozy magic to Audrey’s Farmhouse. Choose your date based on what type of atmosphere feels right for you.

Book Your Favorite Vendors Early

Once you’ve chosen your date, reach out to your favorite vendors as soon as possible. Venues like The Roundhouse, City Winery Hudson Valley, and The Garrison often book up far in advance. Local planners, florists, and DJs tend to be in high demand during peak fall weekends, so the earlier you inquire, the better your chances of securing your dream team.

Consider Hiring a Hudson Valley Wedding Planner

If you’re hosting a larger wedding or want help bringing your vision to life, consider hiring a Hudson Valley wedding planner. Local experts can coordinate logistics, decor, and vendor schedules. A planner familiar with the area can make your day run smoothly so you can focus on celebrating with your guests.

Planning an Intimate Wedding or Elopement in the Hudson Valley

Smaller weddings can be just as meaningful as large celebrations. Venues like Bird & Bottle Inn, The Wild Beacon, and Blooming Hill Farm are perfect for intimate gatherings. Whether you’re hosting a micro wedding or a full elopement, the Hudson Valley offers cozy, scenic spaces to exchange your vows in peace.

You Might Need a Photography Permit
