Why You Should Consider a First Look
If you’re on the fence about doing a first look, here’s why you should consider it. Many people wonder whether they should do a first look or wait until the actual ceremony for them to see their partner. They are pros and cons to each, but we tend to favor a first look. Not only can they streamline your wedding day, but they leave you more time for family and friends. Read on to see why you should be doing a first look at your wedding.
It speeds up your timeline
Doing a first look can speed up your timeline. Instead of going from getting ready to the ceremony, get ready a little bit earlier instead. Schedule a first look and family photos to save yourself time after the ceremony. It means getting ready a little bit earlier in the day, but that’s okay! You’ll have more time with your family and friends on your special day.
Spend more time with your guests
Spend more time with you guests by doing a first look. Doing a first look for you to get your bridal portraits and family photos done so you don’t have to worry about it during cocktail hour. This gives you more time with your guests. After all, everyone is there to see you. What does see you! Don’t disappear for 45 minutes to an hour just to take some photos, when you could be seeing people that you maybe haven’t seen in a long time. Spend more time with your guests when you do a first look.
Get those family photos OVER with!
One thing we hear from a lot of couples in this “I don’t want a lot of formal photos“. We know. We feel you. We hear you. Get those family photos over with after the first look and before the ceremony. It’s a great time, about 20 to 30 minutes after the first look, to set up your family photo sessions and knock them out of the park so you don’t have to worry about them for the rest of the day. Family photos are still a very important part of your wedding photography, but that doesn’t mean they have to eat into the rest of your day. Get the family photos over with by scheduling a first look and family photos before the ceremony.
It’s a beautiful, intimate moment with your partner
Your first look can be a beautiful, intimate moment with your partner. On your wedding day, pretty much all eyes are on you for the entire day. Take this moment to spend with just your partner and have a moment alone together. Some couples choose to read private vows to their partner during this time, which makes for a lovely video moment as well.
Get some daylight in your wedding photos
Many people schedule their wedding ceremonies to take place in the late afternoon or early evening. This makes sense for couples who want to have a nice dinner and reception that leads to a party party party! However, sometimes it can be really nice to have daylight in your wedding photos. There’s something just so lovely about natural light that makes everyone look their absolute best. Flatter your family, wedding party and special guests with some natural light in your wedding photos. Having a first look followed by family photos is the perfect opportunity to get daylight in your wedding photos.
