We recently had the joy of photographing Megan and Matthew for a beautiful Dockside Park maternity session. This late April shoot took place in the lush, welcoming landscape of Cold Spring. All the spring greenery had just popped from the trees around the park. Additionally, the last of the season’s blossoms were still clinging to the branches above. We are honestly so obsessed with how these images turned out, and we cannot wait to share them.
Planning Around Golden Hour in the Hudson Valley
As Hudson Valley family photographers, we always plan our sessions around the very best light. Golden hour at Dockside Park requires a little extra thought and preparation. The sun drops behind Storm King Mountain earlier than expected, which shortens our sunset window considerably. Therefore, we time our arrivals carefully to make the most of that warm, glowing light. Fortunately, Megan and Matthew arrived ready to go, and the conditions were absolutely perfect.
Spring Blossoms Along the Cold Spring Waterfront
Dockside Park offers a beautifully manicured section with sweeping waterfront views of the Hudson River. This Dockside Park maternity session benefited from the season’s final blossoms still clinging to the trees. The combination of blooms, greenery, and water made every single frame feel like a painting. Our Beacon family photography style truly thrives in locations with this kind of natural variety. As a result, we knew immediately that this session was going to be something very special.
Family Portraits with Megan, Matthew, and Sweet David
We began the session in the manicured section of the park with the whole family together. Megan, Matthew, and their sweet son David were absolute naturals in front of the camera. Furthermore, David brought such genuine energy and sweetness to every single frame. Cold Spring provides a stunning backdrop that elevates even the simplest of family moments. We love starting sessions in this space because the park’s structure gives us so much to work with.
Solo Maternity Portraits at Dockside Park
After the family portraits, we shifted our focus to solo maternity images of Megan. This Dockside Park maternity session gave us so many gorgeous opportunities to celebrate her glow. As a Hudson Valley family photographer team, we treasure these quiet and intimate moments of pregnancy. The golden hour light fell across Megan in the most warm and flattering way possible. Moreover, the waterfront backdrop of Dockside Park added both depth and beauty to every shot.
A Heartwarming Gender Reveal in the Grass
Next, we moved to the open grassy section of Dockside Park for something extra special. Megan surprised David and Matthew with a sweet gender reveal right there in the park. Watching their genuine reactions unfold in real time was such an incredible privilege. In addition, our Beacon family photography approach means we always stay ready for unexpected and emotional moments. This was truly one of the most memorable reveals we have ever had the honor of witnessing.
A Hand-Crocheted Blanket and a Stunning Cold Spring Sunset
To close the session, Megan spread out a hand-crocheted blanket she had lovingly made herself. The whole family settled onto it together as the Cold Spring sunset glowed warmly behind them. As a result, the images from this moment are simply breathtaking and full of pure joy. The golden hour light at this point had reached its absolute most stunning. We could not have scripted a more perfect ending to this beautiful Dockside Park maternity session.
