Sara and Sumaya’s LGBTQ Foundry wedding was nothing short of perfection. This fairytale day took place at one of the most iconic venues in New York City. As Hudson Valley wedding photographers, we are so honored that this amazing couple chose us to document their memories. With both digital and film photography, we wanted to serve this couple for their storybook celebration.
Each half of a couple, got their respective hair and make up done together. This was a nice way to start the day as they could enjoy being surrounded by loved ones together. It was only when they got into their dresses that they separated for getting ready. While Sumaya had seen Sara’s dress, Sara had not seen Sumaya’s. The biggest surprise was that Sumaya had made her wedding dress in the months leading up to the big day. Friends and family were all stunned by the incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail.
These two tied the knot for their LGBTQ Foundry wedding on a gorgeous autumn day. We were so lucky to have some foliage out, and the weather was perfect for an outdoor ceremony. Before they recited their vows, we got their first look, and portraits done in the courtyard. The ivy, growing on the walls made for a great backdrop to get these two going for the day. We then used the platform area where Olivia Howard Designs had set up their floral installation. While we primarily shot digital photos, Kenneth also used his large format, 4×5 camera for some special film photography. Our Hudson Valley wedding photography team offers both digital and film options to make your coverage fun and diverse.
Wedding party and family photos were taken on the courtyard’s platform as well. This is a great space for couples with an outdoor Foundry wedding ceremony to take group shots. It makes it nice and easy to get an industrial, yet rustic, backdrop to the photos. You can easily gather your loved ones in one place for some great, candid photography. This will help your wedding day run smoothly so you can enjoy cocktail hour without any distractions.
This queer wedding in New York City was inspirational and ethereal in both design and substance. Sumaya walked down the aisle first before Sara, and then assisted her with her walk up the platform steps. When we first met this couple in 2020, it was right before the start of some health issues that Sara has persevered through. She details her journey in becoming disabled thoroughly on her Instagram. These two have been through the ringer together, and their ceremony had no shortage of tears.
For an LGBTQ wedding at the Foundry, we highly recommend getting a planner for your special day. These two hired Intimate Occasions by Ikiya to help manage their event. When you hire an event planner, it helps the rest of wedding vendors to focus on what they’re good at. Plus, this wedding venue is one where you’ll want to make the most out of the event space for ceremonies and receptions. From its brick walls in the main space to the bright and airy Albra Room, you’ll want to optimize for gorgeous wedding photos like this couple did.
Cocktail hour took place in the Greenhouse, which is a light-filled space at the venue. Sara and Sumaya greeted their guests and enjoyed appetizers from Bartelby & Sage, one of New York’s awesome caterers. For LGBTQ couples looking to get married at the Foundry, this wedding is absolutely inspirational from the photogenic decor to the couple’s use of time with loved ones. After cocktails, speeches began in the main room. The tables, lined with moss and florals, created a fairytale garden look.
Finally, the dance floor was a hit in the Greenhouse. If you want a great distribution of space at this event venue, we highly recommend shuffling between rooms for your different events. This queer wedding in Long Island City is a perfect example of how to use the space efficiently to keep the party energy flowing. These two worked with ULS Lighting to make for the perfect atmosphere. They opened up with a meaningful first dance and then got the party popping. June Events had guests moving and grooving all night long.
When you plan out your wedding at the Foundry, you can take tons of inspiration from Sara and Sumaya. These two even had Van Leeuwen Ice Cream come surprise their guests with a truck at the end of the night. This was a great addition to the bonfire in the courtyard and made for a super fun treat. When you’ve got both indoor and outdoor space like this, why not use it to its fullest extent? We love every single detail that went into this special day.
With friends and family surrounding the couple, every moment was meaningful on this big day. We are so happy to capture wedding photos like these.
