We shot a beautiful engagement session for Grace and Sebastian on the Brooklyn Bridge. Now, if you’re a New Yorker or if you’ve ever even been to the Brooklyn Bridge, you know how crowded that place gets. That’s why we ventured out at the crack of dawn for Grace and Sebastian’s Brooklyn Bridge engagement photography session. The weather was pretty chilly that morning, but these two were totally resilient and ready for action.
Engagement photos on the Brooklyn Bridge
These engagement photos on the Brooklyn Bridge were lit with beautiful, warm morning light. Aside from the fact that the Brooklyn Bridge is typically (mostly) empty at the crack of dawn, it also gives some stunning direct light on the Brooklyn side. We headed up from the entrance at Washington Street & Prospect to get to the spot we shot at.
Taking engagement photos in chilly weather
Some couples prefer to wait until it’s warmer weather to take their engagement photos, while others are okay venturing out into the cold. It’s totally dependent on the couple, and how they’re using the engagement photos. Grace and Sebastian wanted to use their Brooklyn Bridge wedding photos for parts of their planning process, so we ventured out into a chilly morning. It was totally worth it though – no one was out there!
Engagement Photos in Dumbo
Just like the Brooklyn Bridge, the engagement photo opportunities in Dumbo are stunning – and often filled with tourists. That’s why heading to Washington Street at the very beginning of the day is the best approach to taking engagement photos in Dumbo. If you want an empty (or mostly empty) street shot in Dumbo, you’ve got to go early. By the time even 9AM hits, it’s packed with people. It’s an absolutely gorgeous view and that’s why people LOVE it over there – but it also makes for a tricky situation if you’re not there at sunrise.
Time Out Market Engagement Photos
One of our favorite new spots for engagement photography is the Time Out Market in Dumbo. The Time Out Market has a spectacular rooftop view that anyone can access from their elevator or stairs. It’s like having the same views that you do in Brooklyn Bridge Park, but way less people are there. Plus, there’s a gorgeous hallway inside filled with hanging lights that makes for a beautiful backdrop.
