We knew Wave Hill was going to be a gorgeous wedding venue when we first started the conversation with Krista and Thomas. However, we had no idea that this New York venue would be this incredibly gorgeous when we went to capture their NOLA-themed wedding day at Wave Hill. Originally set to marry in New Orleans, these two pivoted their wedding plans to have a stunning fall wedding ceremony at Wave Hill in New York.

Wave Hill is a stunning venue located in Riverdale, New York. This gem of the Bronx has a stunning property with beautifully maintained gardens. On the property, there are gorgeous views of the Hudson River and the sparkling New York skyline in the distance. Everything about this venue is a New York wedding photographer’s dream – from the gorgeous greenhouses to the charming pergola.

Getting Married at Wave Hill in Riverdale, NY

The Wave Hill House was a former estate house built in 1843, and rests on the property’s stunning 28 acres. This truly romantic wedding venue can accommodate micro-weddings and elopements, as well as larger parties. Fitting anywhere from 10 to 200 guests, couples have tons of options for where they want to tie the knot at this venue.

You can also opt for a ceremony-only option on weekdays at Wave Hill. Their ceremony packages host up to 125 guests and take place in the evening-only. If you’re looking to have an elopement or micro-wedding at this historical site, Monday to Friday is a good option to look into. They have covered and uncovered options for outdoor ceremonies, perfect in case it rains!

Thankfully, for Thomas and Krista’s NOLA-themed wedding at Wave Hill, the weather held up perfectly. Taking place at the very beginning of autumn, the bridal party prepared themselves with some leather jackets just in case. The groom wore a wool suit, keeping him cozy all day and night.

Stunning Bronx Wedding Venue for Candid Wedding Photography

Krista and her bridesmaids got ready on-site at the Wave Hill historic house. There are gorgeous, bright rooms to get ready in on your wedding day. After getting her hair and makeup done, we decided to do a first look with the bridesmaids before Krista’s first look with Thomas. The bridesmaid reaction was adorable, with everybody so excited for Krista to have her fairytale wedding.

The bride wore a gorgeous wedding dress from Rue de Siene that fit the NOLA-themed wedding perfectly. Krista’s hair and makeup was timeless with a little bit of sass. With Wave Hill’s stunning grounds, we didn’t miss any opportunity to capture bridal portraits. These two shared a first look at the Aquatic Garden before heading over to the greenhouses for some photos. With this many acres on the property, there are so many incredible photo locations at Wave Hill.

With both indoor and outdoor options available, you can choose whether to have your ceremony and reception in Armor Hall, or out on the stunning terrace. Krista and Thomas chose to celebrate with their ceremony on the lawn by the pergola, with a glowing sunset shining through their Wave Hill wedding photos.

Wave Hill is a New York Wedding Photographer’s Dream

We captured family photos in front of the pergola prior to the ceremony. By getting the group photos out of the way ahead of time, the couple got to enjoy themselves for the rest of the night. There were no more staged shots after the ceremony; they leaned into candid wedding photography to enjoy the rest of their night.

As these two descended down the aisle, Thomas gave his buddy an unexpected chest-bump; a sign of the amazing party to come. This hilarious gesture was an unexpected–– and awesome–– moment to witness. The night proved to have many more fun candid moments like this, which is why we’re so grateful the couple opted for videography as well.

Wedding Videography at Wave Hill in New York

When we shoot wedding videography in addition to photography, we work as a team to capture the very best moments of the day. Instead of a team of four or five following you around, it’s just us capturing your wedding day. It creates a more relaxed environment, so our couples don’t have to worry about being asked to repeat moments over and over.

We shoot our videos in a highlight-reel style, meaning that we’re taking small clips throughout the day. While we’re shooting photos at the same time, this allows us to get dual coverage without a big crew tagging along. Their reception took place on the Kate French Terrace; the perfect place to celebrate on a warm evening like this. To celebrate their NOLA-themed wedding, these two wanted candid wedding photos of their guests having an amazing time. For New York wedding photographers like us, that was a dream to make happen. Their cocktail hour kicked things off with amazing moments that live on as super fun candid shots.

As the night progressed, there was a major focus on dancing. Between courses, the DJ beckoned the guests back out to the dance floor to shimmy and shake. This venue is perfect for a DJ booth or a small band and dance floor. Krista and Thomas opted for a DJ to keep the party going all night long.

Capturing the moments of joy and candid photos was so much fun at this venue. We can’t wait to shoot our next Wave Hill wedding; there is so much opportunity to be unique! For Krista and Thomas, their day was low-stress and totally unique to them as a couple. Since they couldn’t get married in New Orleans, having a well-designed wedding at Wave Hill was an amazing alternative.

With event design by Spark Group Events, they turned this wedding around in an extremely short period of time – like, weeks, not months! The floral decor from Enza Events and rentals from Party Rental Ltd. brought the bride’s vision to life. Krista is a graphic designer and let her talents shine through in her wedding details. The catering by Great Performances was unique and absolutely delicious, and the cake by Everything Lulu ended the night perfectly.

The presentation of their dishes is phenomenal from cocktail hour to a sit-down dinner. They also assist with ordering rentals to ensure their couples are getting everything they need for their wedding.

Finishing the evening with a sparkler exit, these two kept the fun going every single moment of the night. Krista and Thomas were both the life of the party, tearing up the dance floor and bringing so much joy to their guests. They couldn’t have picked a more stunning New York City wedding venue than Wave Hill for their ultra-personal marriage celebration.
