Hamilton and Karen had a beautiful Brooklyn Botanic Garden Proposal. This location is absolutely flawless and full of spots to potentially pop the question. Since we were just past blossoms season, Hamilton decided to propose in a field of flowers. This exclusive spot is a great place to seal your forever moment.
Westchester & Westchester & New York proposal photography at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden
As Hudson Valley proposal photographers, we love photographing people popping the question in unique locations. This was particularly special, as for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden you need to have a permit. And yes – this is absolutely required if you plan to have proposal photographers for your big moment here.

Scheduling a Proposal Session in Brooklyn, NY
The scheduling for this proposal was great. Having their permit set for a time shortly before the garden opened to the public allowed for a private moment with this wonderful couple. Hamilton’s ruse to get Karen to the site was to tell her that his friends needed models for their portfolio. We’ve had a couple of proposals go down this way, and we’re totally cool playing along with it.
Stunning Spring Brooklyn Botanic Garden Proposal Photos
When it comes to proposals in NYC, it doesn’t get much more beautiful than this location. You can have an outstanding moment at any time of year as well. Hamilton chose to propose in the late spring when we were a little more sure that the weather wouldn’t be too chilly or unpredictable.

Proposal Photos with a Glass Slipper
They were lucky enough to have a bright day for these photos, allowing for the perfect, sunny, candid moment. The other amazing surprise Hamilton pulled off? He got her a glass slipper to wear in her exact size. She’d always told him she wanted to be proposed to with a glass slipper, like a princess.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden Proposal in the Springtime
As Beacon proposal photographers, we could not have been more in love with the spot Hamilton chose. He had Karen turn around and do a “back to back” pose with her. While she stood with her back turned, he got on one knee and surprised her. She was caught totally off-guard. It was a beautiful surprise!

Preparing Your Partner for Proposal Photography (Without Them Knowing)
For many surprise proposals, the partner is caught completely surprised. In order to capture you and your partner at your best, we’ve got a few tips to prepare them… without them even knowing!
Have Your Partner Get Their Nails Done for the Perfect Proposal
It may not be easy to subtly get the message across, but it’s definitely important. Have your partner’s friends or family assist in this if you’re not sure how to get them to tidy up their nails. Get your partner to book a manicure and treat themselves ahead of the big moment.
Make Sure They’re Not in Sweatpants
It’s not likely they’re expecting the big proposal and engagement moment, so be sure that they’re not wearing sweatpants. You can tell them you have brunch plans, or, like Hamilton, tell them you’ve booked a photo shoot! Anything subtle like this can help to capture the moment in a way they’ll be comfortable with.
