We're Beacon-based Hudson Valley & Catskills wedding + elopement photographers who love to capture natural, authentic moments for all couples in love.
Danielle and Derek are planning their wedding at the Roundhouse in Beacon, NY. They reached out to us for a Fishkill Overlook Falls engagement session just weeks before the shoot. This last-minute decision turned out to be one of our absolute favorites. We are always so grateful when couples choose to invest in an engagement session before their wedding day. Together, we had such a wonderful early spring afternoon exploring all that Beacon has to offer.
Danielle and Derek wanted practice before the wedding day arrived. Therefore, they reached out to us for a quick session in Beacon. As Beacon wedding photographers, we truly love when couples take this step. Additionally, booking an engagement session early helps everyone feel relaxed and natural on the actual wedding day. We find that couples who practice together always appear more at ease in their wedding photos.
Above all, an engagement session is about building real connection between couples and their photographers. We use this time to understand how each couple moves, laughs, and interacts together. Consequently, we know exactly how to capture their best moments when the wedding day arrives. This Fishkill Overlook Falls engagement session was the perfect introduction to Danielle and Derek. Furthermore, it gave us a wonderful opportunity to learn what makes their love story unique.
We began our Hudson Valley engagement photography session near the Beacon Movie Theatre on Main Street. Then, we strolled over to the classic Yankee Clipper Diner for some fun and relaxed moments. March is an ideal time for this stretch of Beacon because the streets are open and peaceful. Furthermore, the historic storefronts provide a beautifully timeless backdrop without any seasonal distractions. In short, Main Street in March is one of the best places for a relaxed engagement session.

March offers a uniquely neutral and calm palette for an engagement session in the Hudson Valley. The bare trees create soft, open backdrops that suit earthy and warm outfit choices perfectly. In addition, early spring light is gentle, diffused, and wonderfully flattering for portraits. Couples who prefer a timeless and understated look will absolutely love shooting in March. We always look forward to March sessions because the overall atmosphere feels especially calm and serene.

Because the leaves have not yet returned, the landscape feels naturally open and softly moody. Grey skies in early spring add an even, diffused quality to the light. Similarly, the muted tones of March allow couples to truly stand out in every frame. We find that this season creates some of our most timeless Fishkill Overlook Falls engagement images. The lack of foliage also means we never have to compete for clean, beautiful backdrops.

After exploring Main Street, we headed to the scenic train tracks along the Hudson River. This stretch provides wide, open compositions with a dramatic and cinematic quality that we love. Then, we made our way to the Fishkill Overlook Falls engagement portion of the afternoon. The falls sit right outside the Roundhouse and offer a truly stunning natural backdrop for couples. This part of Beacon truly feels like a world apart from the everyday.
Fishkill Overlook Falls is one of the most striking spots in Beacon for Hudson Valley engagement photography. The waterfall is dramatic and beautiful even in the quiet months of early spring. Moreover, its location next to the Roundhouse makes it especially meaningful for couples getting married there. We love incorporating this stunning waterfall into engagement sessions for Roundhouse couples specifically. As a result, every session here feels both personal and completely breathtaking.

As Beacon wedding photographers, we focus on capturing genuine moments rather than stiff or forced poses. Therefore, we encourage couples to simply walk, laugh, and enjoy each other near the falls. The sound and movement of the water naturally helps people feel relaxed and at ease. As a result, this engagement session produced some of the most authentic images we have captured. We believe that real emotion always translates into the most beautiful and lasting photographs.
After the falls, we finished our Fishkill Overlook Falls engagement session with more time wandering Main Street. Beacon is especially wonderful for March engagement sessions because the streets remain calm and uncrowded. Instead of competing with summer tourists or colorful foliage, we had the whole town to ourselves. We love how this city stays equally magical no matter the season or the weather. This is truly one of our favorite things about photographing here in Beacon.
After your session, we always suggest stopping into Melzingah Tap House for a bite and a drink. It is a cozy and welcoming spot right in Beacon that is perfect for unwinding together. Danielle and Derek had such a wonderful afternoon, and we were so grateful to share it with them. This Hudson Valley engagement photography experience reminded us exactly why we love what we do. We truly could not imagine a better way to wrap up a day like this one.
