#1: Wear Comfy Shoes Between Shots

We mentioned “wandering the streets” earlier, and that’s essentially what we get up to! There’s usually plenty of walking involved as New York is an incredible walking city. Wandering a neighborhood, whatever the weather, is one of our favorite things to do. And it always gives us tons of opportunities for the best engagement photos.

So, pick your favorite neighborhood, grab your comfy shoes and let’s get to wandering!

Comfy shoes, by the way, can look just as fabulous as something a little more glamorous. But if you’re imagining your photos in an awesome pair of heels or something a little less practical, that’s ok. Bring them along and switch out the comfy shoes when we find the perfect spot to take some photos.

#2: Bring Two Outfits for Versatility in Your Photos

Yes, your engagement shoot is a bit of a practice run for your wedding day. But it’s also a fabulous chance to get some gorgeous professional photos of the two of you in something other than your wedding outfits!

Most couples don’t typically have professional photos taken of them, except for on their wedding day. So, make the most of this session and have a couple of different looks in your collection of images.

We spend plenty of time hanging out, so bring along a second outfit, and we’ll make sure you get the chance to change during the shoot.

That way, you could have a formal look and a more casual one. You’ll have so many beautiful engagement photos to enjoy!

This is why we’re always going on about early starts. We get it. Not everyone is a morning person, but when you’ve taken the time to get up early for your engagement photos, we promise you won’t be disappointed.

The streets are quieter, there are fewer people around, and the light is always incredible at that time of day. Ok, yes, that last one is only important to us, but we promise it means you’ll have the best possible NYC engagement photos you could wish for.

#4: Don’t Be Nervous – It’ll Be Great!

It can feel a little strange to stand in the middle of the street while having your photograph taken. But we promise you won’t be the only ones!

It’s true, sometimes you might end up with a bit of an audience, which can make it hard to relax. Especially when you’re trying to be all cuddled up and cute with your other half. But our advice is to forget about whatever else might be going on around you and concentrate on each other.

Picture yourselves going for a walk together and forget about the photographer/s moving around you. The more relaxed you are, the better your photos will be!

Strangers are always super nice when they see engagement sessions. There’s something about seeing a couple in love that people just adore. So, even if you do gather a bit of an audience, we guarantee you they’ll always be super friendly and supportive!
