Ashley and Erika’s beautiful rustic Deity wedding in downtown Brooklyn was one of those unforgettable days. We had so much fun capturing the love between these two amazing humans. From the moment we first met, these two have brought fun, laughter, and light into every photo.
Deity is an all-inclusive wedding venue in the heart of downtown Brooklyn. With its convenient location, you’re super close to Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Dumbo, and the Brooklyn Bridge for lots of potential with NYC wedding photography. Plus, the neighborhood itself is super picturesque in case you’re running tight on time for portraits.
Starting our day at the Marriott Brooklyn Bridge, Erika and Ashley got ready in separate spaces. With Curled & Contoured pulling off some incredible hair and makeup for these two beautiful brides, we loved joining them for their separate getting ready processes. Ashley jumped around her bed with champagne, and Erika excitedly got ready with loved ones.
When we first met Erika and Ashley at South Street Seaport for their engagement session, the forecast predicted a sunny afternoon. What we got was a wildly moody, cloudy day with sporadic rain showers. Their wedding day had the exact same forecast – from a cloudless sky to random patches of rain. What these two learned on their engagement session, however, is that cloudy days make for some amazing light! Plus, they were totally relaxed about the rain – the most important thing that day was tying the knot.
These two met in Brooklyn Bridge Park for their first look, capturing the iconic NYC skyline in their wedding photography. Dumbo is a perfect spot to take wedding portraits, as there’s so much versatility in such a condensed area. From Jane’s Carousel, to Time Out Market, to Washington street, you’ve got lots of options for amazing photos. Since it was Pride Month, we were pleased to find a sweet LGBTQI+ flag to take romantic photos with as well.
Arriving to Deity, it was time to get family and VIP photos out of the way. We love when couples do a first look because it means we can prioritize getting photos done on the front end of the day. It means you get to spend the time after you actually do get married with your loved ones and having a blast!
This multi-floor venue features a bridal suite, ceremony space, cocktail lounge, and dance floor on each respective floor. They’ve also got a gorgeous rooftop with sweeping views of Brooklyn, perfect for wedding photos that truly feel like the heart of New York. As New York wedding photographers, Deity weddings are a dream to capture.
Having each floor dedicated to a different part of your wedding day is super helpful, as it means you’re having ceremony and reception all at the same place. Removing that travel time between venues for guests can be super convenient, and allow for your schedule to run more smoothly. Having an all-inclusive venue also means a low-stress (or stress-free!) day for you two.
The ceremony was held in front of Deity’s awesome geometric archway. We love seeing this beautiful addition to Deity weddings – just add some florals and you’re good to go! Erika and Ashley had a sweet ritual in their ceremony where they painted a circle on canvas together, representing their forever union.
Once the ceremony was over, Ashley and Erika took some time alone together before joining guests for cocktail hour. This is always a super sweet moment for couples, because you don’t really spend a ton of time together on the wedding day itself! The amazing staff at this Deity wedding brought them some appetizers so they could try everything for themselves.
These two also had a unique guest book, having friends and family sign Jenga pieces. It’s a great way to revisit your ‘guest book’ in the future while having fun and reminiscing about your big day. They also had a wild photo booth setup that took place on the dance floor level of Deity.
When it was time to get the party started, Ashley and Erika entered the room for their first dance. Let us tell you, this was a first dance! They had a choreographed routine worked out and was totally impressive. We loved capturing this special moment between these two. With a full bar and exposed brick walls, you can’t go wrong with this quirky industrial spot.
At the end of the night, the couple popped a bottle of champagne outside the venue. Champagne pops are super fun at weddings, but of course, it’s always safe to do them at the end of the night! That way, if you end up with champagne all over your clothes, you don’t have to walk around all day with champagne-covered outfits.
Photographing Deity weddings is a super fun experience, and we can’t wait to go back there! We love this Brooklyn venue for its totally unique vibes and awesome location. If you’re thinking about getting married at this gorgeous spot, let us know – we know this venue inside and out. Plus, we can show you the best spots in the area to take your wedding portraits!
