Meagan and Alexander’s Top of the Rock engagement session took place on a rainy day in Manhattan. As New York wedding photographers, this is one of our favorite unique spots for your pictures. Although it’s a popular tourist spot, it’s not as popular for engagement photography. However, you get stunning views of the city and of the Empire State Building.
Romantic and Rainy Top of the Rock Engagement Session
There was no rain on the forecast, but that doesn’t always mean it won’t sprinkle! We were hit with some unexpected rain in the middle of our session. Before heading to Top of the Rock, we went to Meagan and Alexander’s apartment for some refuge from the rain. We got some adorable non-traditional engagement photos in their home.
Engagement Photos on the Steps of the MET Museum
The session started off on the stairs at the Metropolitan Museum. It was quite crowded to start but made for some great shots. We love the “big apple” energy that these photos give us. We’d recommend on a typical day to do the steps of the Met in the morning when there are less tourists. The crowds are much more manageable and you get a lot more space to move around and play.
Cloudy Top of the Rock Engagement Session in NYC
After their unique engagement photos in their apartment, we went out for their Top of the Rock engagement session. The weather cleared up and we got some great shots atop the famous Rockefeller Center. We love the Empire State Building in the background! It’s our biggest piece of advice to book Express VIP tickets so you can get up to the top faster. It’ll help you skip the lines and get your photos done seamlessly.
When to Take Engagement Photos at the Top of the Rock
There’s never a bad time to take engagement photos at the Top of the Rock. Our advice would be to go in the summer time to make sure you don’t get cold. It’s quite windy at the top, so you’ll want to have some sunshine. We also recommend doing a session in the morning if you can, although afternoons are definitely possible.
Where to Take Engagement Photos in New York City
For the most comfortable and natural engagement photos, we recommend doing the Top of the Rock engagement session after your first location. Since there’s not much going on at the top beyond the view, many couples choose a first location. Examples are the MET Museum steps, Central Park, their home, and Rockefeller Plaza.
